Freeman, Ph.D., is a founder, chief executive, and institutional strategist with more than twenty-five years of experience building organizations that serve the public. His work spans enterprise development, education, health, workforce development, public policy, ethics, and emerging technology. At the center of his work is a clear conviction: institutions should develop the people inside them while strengthening the communities around them. Institution Building and Executive Leadership Dr. Freeman founded The Meeting Place and continues to lead the family of nonprofit and social enterprises it anchors. Together, these organizations hold approximately $22 million in combined assets. His signature work is the transformation of 23 acres of abandoned retail into a civic campus where health care, counseling, culture, community organizations, and worship share one address. The campus includes an eight-screen cinema, a renal care facility, conference and event space, and the headquarters of the South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP. This record reflects Dr. Freeman’s ability to assemble partners, steward capital, manage competing interests, and turn an ambitious vision into durable public infrastructure. Policy and Ethics Advisory Dr. Freeman advises leaders and organizations facing decisions with financial, institutional, and moral consequences. Innovation: Zolvay Systems Dr. Freeman is the founder and Chief Ethicist of Zolvay Systems, a venture supported by Harvard Innovation Labs. Zolvay develops ambient software that works alongside professionals as they write and think within the AI tools they already use. It offers guidance in the moment, helping people frame problems clearly, understand their audience, and check important claims. The platform also helps leaders understand and strengthen how AI is being used across their organizations. Dr. Freeman leads the company’s work in ethics, governance, and institutional responsibility.
